Well last night I set out on a journey, a pilgrimage of sorts. I hit 95 miles of open road to see Stephanie (a.k.a. the Yarn Harlot) at a book signing. When she found out how far I had come to see her, she said I was crazy! Little does she know that I love to drive! I need to go out and hit the open road occasionally and have a little adventure! I don’t get out much and this was a much needed boost!
The journey was nice, I listened to some good music mused about sites I passed. As I was passing the traffic jam close to home, I recalled how I used to be stuck in that every week night! I am sure glad I don’t have that job anymore, and I don’t have to sit in that traffic with the kids every night!
Then a bit down the road I passed the exit where the library is that we go for Jaxom’s reading group every other week. His reading speed has doubled over this year! A real accomplishment! 😀
Later along the way, I passed the fair grounds where the Great Lakes Fiber show and sale is held!
Last year while we were there Brian sustained what turns out could have been a life threatening injury! It cut short our jaunt at the show, and it has made the last year a time of healing for him at some times very painful, but I am sure grateful that it turned out as well as it did. Quite often with this type of injury it doesn’t. 😐
Then it was on to the yarn shop. I arrived there, only taking one wrong turn short detour and it was pouring rain. Got to the shop and it was basically empty! Had I missed everything? I was only about 20 minutes late! No, I learned that Stephanie would be back in the shop in about 30 minutes. Only, they neglected to tell me that she was at a church a block down giving her reading and talk!😡 Well so I wandered into the nearby shops came back ten minutes later, and then I find out that she is giving her talk!! 👿 I’m sorry! but why do they think I drove two hours out here to the middle of no where:?: I found the church.. after two tries! That town has more churches than anything else in it! And walked in to hear her closing remarks! 😥 But that meant I was near the back, and so I cut out quickly, resisting the temptation to follow her out like a stalker little lost puppy. So I was second in line back at the shop for the book signing portion, behind this really cool guy with a neat accent and cute kids! (who was that neat guy?)
Stephanie is the real deal! Sweet, kind and thoughtful! She recognised me right off after reading little RAOK card I brought her! And we had a little chat! It was really nice to meet her! We chatted about husbands and blogging, and putting the two together.. all the while she was writing in my book.
Then it was time for me to move on and let the next people in line come up. I didn’t look in the book to see what she had written till I was pulling out of town. I used Brian’s annoying habit little trick of reading while driving..
So cool!
I resisted the urge to continue and read the book all the way home. It was getting dark anyway!
But listened to my music, enjoyed being able to hear my music in the car, without interuption, and daydreamed.
I have a little ‘You know you knit too much” to add Stephanie.. You know you knit too much when you daydream about ways to knit and drive at the same time, and can’t wait till they come up with those auto pilot cars so you actually can!
