Great Lakes Fiber Show and sale

Sunday afternoon Azia, Julian and I headed out for the Great Lakes Fiber Show and Sale. We had some fun! We saw sheep, and alpacas and lots of yummy yummy yarn!

Alpacas!!!

I had a budget.. I had my birthday money and a little more and decided to keep to that. So I took my time! I WAS in search of a yarn swift. There weren’t that many, and given my budget I quickly decided that it wasn’t in the cards!(there weren’t that many anyway) So I got some beautiful handspun handpainted yarn from Briar Rose

It’s pretty! And a nice bulky weight, and nearly 500 yards of it!

OOOOH pretty!

The lady there was just soo tickled that I went all the way around the show and then came back to their booth to spend that birthday money on their yarn! It was just beautiful! And for that amount of bulky wool it was a great price compared to other booths!
**If you are interested Chris left an email in the comments and Briar Rose is always glad to do mail order yarns if you give them a colour scheme they will pick something nice out for you! Just send an email!

Then it was Azia’s turn. She saw a girl about her age working on some needle felting. She asked me what she was doing so I said ask her. So she did! And we came home with a new toy for Azia, a nice beginner needle felting kit! And hey! I can use it too!

She got right to work!

At the same booth there were those cute little sheepy tape measures, but I was about a dollar fifty short! Oh well! i could have charged it but I wanted to keep in my budget! I wonder if they have them at Joann’s?

Everyone was so nice at the show! I asked a whole lot more questions than last year, and we even got a lesson in drop spindle spinning! Now mabye we can use that fiber we got last year and spin it! We were doing it upside down! If not hey! We can use it with the needle felting kit!

I also asked about a whole lot of spinning wheels! The Louet wheels are so cool looking! Some day! As I don’t see myself becoming to successful with the drop spindle!

I think that I will just have to limit my yarn purchaces to shows and fairs! The people are soo much nicer than in the LYS! It’s like they really love what they are doing and want to share!

  2. Hey, you are so lucky, that yarn looks really, really nice. What are you planning to make with? A sweater? A super scrumptious lace shawl? Hey, how is your knitting with needles coming along? RU ready to try some lace?
