I pulled this from the Stitch Diva newsletter!
“While donating cash is the most immediate way to help, many knitters and crocheters are looking for more personal way to offer assistance. We are compiling a few ideas that we think offer a unique way to help:
NEW! Trim your Stash! How many of us have yarn, tools, notions and patterns that we will never use? For knitters and crocheters that have lost everything in Hurricane Katrina, the loss of their stash may not be the most important thing, but for a crafter used to having something to do with their hands, it is another dimension of this tragedy. This project was conceived by Jana Trent who is collecting and compiling donations to make self-contained kits complete with everything necessary to complete a project: pattern, yarn, needles/hooks, notions, etc. For more information on how you can contribute, contact Jana Trent or Laurie Moskow. Crochet or Knit Something and Give it to a Person in Need: People have been evacuated from their homes with little more than the clothes on their backs. Babies, children, seniors and adults have lost everything. A handmade blanket, toy or other item is not only sorely needed, but a profoundly reassuring gesture to a person in dire need. The following organizations are taking your donations and distributing them to those who need it:
Lisa Gentry (Fastest Crocheter in the World) lives in a rural area of Northern Louisiana and is helping a group of 220 victims that are seeking shelter at a local state park. Visit her website for mailing address and more info.”
