Well I have decided to participate in Socktoberfest again this year. Has it already been a year?!
Lolly has asked a couple questions for us to tell our sock history. So here we go!
When did you start making socks? Did you teach yourself or were you taught by a friend or relative? or in a class?
I started making socks a three years ago. I am self taught so to speak, I learned by reading patterns and trying them!
What was your first pair? How have they “held up” over time?
My first pair of socks was a pair I knit up for my son on a knitting loom. He loved them. Everytime I would start knitting something else after that he would ask, “Are you knitting me some little socks?”
They had held up pretty well till I lost one! It has stayed lost for two years!!
What would you have done differently?
I put invisible elastic thread in the top few rows. They didn’t really need it and it was actually quite annoying in the end.
What yarns have you particularly enjoyed?
I love the feel of Lorna’s Laces Shepard Sock, I havn’e made an actual pair of socks with it yet! Patons sock yarn is what I typically play with, I like it too.
Do you like to crochet your socks? or knit them on DPNs, 2 circulars, or using the Magic Loop method?
I find that I don’t like little needles.. I do well with the two circular method or making socks on my knitting looms.
Which kind of heel do you prefer? (flap? or short-row?)
On needles I like the heel flap, on looms the short row.. admittedly I have not tried the methods on the opposite tool!
How many pairs have you made?
Um.. actually pairs of finished socks??? uh thre so far. The pair for my son, the pair for me during Socktoberfest last year, and the pair for my book.
For Socktoberfest this year I am making a pair of felted slipper socks from Socks Soar on Two Needles
I have one done, and one to start!
Overheard at my house:
“Whoa..who are you knitting that sock for? Hagrid?”
“Wow! The sock! Look at the sock!Is this a sock or a stocking? It’s soo big!”
