I got this letter in my email and thought I would pass it on!
Dear Knitting lover,
Here we are halfway through November, with Thanksgiving just around the corner. Thanksgiving is one of my favorite holidays. It’s a holiday based on the idea of giving and sharing and the perfect opportunity to let those we love know how important they are to us. I live in the coastal town of Encinitas, Calif. in San Diego County. We were surrounded by fires a few weeks ago. This year I am very thankful that none of my friends were seriously harmed by the fires and that my own home and family are fine. But many in San Diego County have lost their homes.
My senior editor for Creative Knitting magazine, Kathy Wesley, has been instrumental in organizing an outreach program for fire survivors throughout the county. It is called Community Christmas Boutique and it is an opportunity for knitters to make a little difference in the life of those who will not have the comfort of their own home this holiday season. Kathy is collecting knit (or crochet) stockings or tree ornaments. By December all the families should be in temporary housing but will not have any of their usual decorations. Each family will be invited to come by and select items that they would like to decorate their homes.
If you are interested in contributing to Community Christmas Boutique, please email Kathy for more information and she will tell you where to send your stockings and ornaments. Kathy_Wesley@DRGnetwork.com
You may use any pattern you desire for your donations. Included below is a pattern for the Christmas Flowers mosaic stocking (I was thinking that you might like to use it for this charity opportunity). You will also find additional stocking patterns (at a minimal charge) that can be downloaded at www.e-PatternsCentral.com.
