Bookish Thursday: Knitters Workshop

Elizabeth Zimmermann's Knitting Workshop

I seem to have a need to go to the classics lately. Elizabeth Zimmermann being one of the chief among them. This book is a gem. I have enjoyed it thoroughly. It is a great book to make you think about your knitting. Elizabeth never minces her words about this, she does expect you to think! She rarely lays out a pattern row by row, but rather gives you the bones and expects you to fill in the rest.

This method really stretches you if you are willing to be stretched. I have heartily recommended this book to many knitters including the more adventurous of loom knitters. There are principles covered in this book that definitely cross over to loom knitting easily, and if one pays attention and is open to learning they can really bloom.

I have also, as I mentioned in a previous post, had the opportunity to view some of the videos from the TV series to which this book is a companion. They are amazing. I am definitely geared toward visual and kinesthetic learning styles and the videos are a great companion to the written word in this case, not to mention there are little extra gems tossed in here and there.

All in all I give this book three thumbs up. Oops.. I don’ have three thumbs.. hmm I’ll have to borrow one!
