My maternal grandfather who was in the Pacific and North Atlantic as a chief gunners mate on the destroyer. He received the purple heart….he was loading a big gun in a storm in the North Atlantic and the shell dropped off it’s carrier and landed on his foot.
My paternal grandfather who was an assistant to the general in charge of the Manhattan Project.
My grandmother, Hattie, who was an Army Corps nurse who took care of prisoners of war.
My adoptive Father, who never got to see any active duty, but did serve in the National Guard and trained soldiers to drive tanks.. that’s just cool!
My crazy brother in law.. who has been to Iraq and back twice! Who lost his friend when their caravan was attacked, at pretty much the same moment Caleb, my youngest was born. I still catch a look in his eyes, when he sees Caleb and thinks about it..
Shanti, a great knitter, and Naval officer! I love to listen to her tales from the sea!
Major Knitter! A proud former Marine and knitter!! Who still continues to give back wherever and whenever she can!
Jim, husband of one of my favourite knit bloggers Kim! He just returned from Iraq, thankfully safe and sound! Which brings happy tears to my eyes every time I go to Kim’s blog.
Thank you all. And thank you to the many many more veterans and their families, who have given so much to our country!
